Drink Pairing for your Holiday Table
November 25, 2021
Find the perfect drink pairing for your holiday table. Whether you’re serving a traditional feast, or gathering with friends over some charcuterie and bubbles, we have a list of drink pairings that fits your style.
1. Primativo
This full-bodied wine brings aromas of dark raspberry, black currant, and preserved cherry with hints of coffee and baking spice. It’s earthy, bold, and luscious character are complemented by round tannins and a smooth finish.
Primitivo pairs best with Grilled Vegetable Pasta, Pizza Rustica, Spaghetti Bolognese, Pasta Puttanesca, Eggplant Parmesan, Hamburgers and Lamb Curry. The low tannin and medium acidity, along with the easy-going nature of Primitivo, makes it food-friendly with hearty and earthy fare, including tomato-based dishes.
The Primativo, Puglia Italy (Vineco Passport Series) is now available as a barrel order at the Wine Factory. Book your spot for our exclusive barrel and be ready to bottle in May 2022. Check out our blog for more information on our upcoming barrels
2. Chardonnay
Chardonnay is an easy-drinking white wine that provides just the right level of juiciness to contrast the neutral flavours of your roasted turkey. As turkey can often end up being dry, Chardonnay’s lemon, pear, mango, pineapple and apple flavours serve up a refreshing balance. Chardonnay’s vanilla and buttery flavours are exceptional with the crispy turkey skin.
3. Champagne & sparkling wine
Bubbly isn’t just for an apéritif or after-dinner drink, it can be enjoyed throughout the whole holiday feast!
The great thing about Champagne and sparkling wine is that it’s versatile. For canapes such as smoked salmon or cocktail sausages, champagne or prosecco might be a good choice. Prosecco, rosé, or champagne would also go well with soft creamy cheese (like brie or camembert).
At The Wine Factory we can sparkle any wine for $30 per batch or $15 for a half batch. Because … bubbles!
4. Mulled wine
Mulled wine is a heavy drink and therefore requires a heavy cheese to compliment it. Light cheese may become lost in the mulled wines flavours. Bold cheeses such as strong blue cheese, semi-soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert pair very well. Hot cheese dishes such as fondue also make a great pairing.
5. Hard Seltzer
Citrus flavoured hard seltzers pair well with any food that could benefit from the squirt of lime juice or a splash of mild vinaigrette. Think whole fried fish, calamari, shrimp, and tossed salads. They’re also lovely with fresh cheese, covering mozzarella, burrata, feta, queso fresco and others.
Make your own hard seltzer this year at the Wine Factory! Our new brand Hard Bubbles is a naturally fermented sparkling beverage that’s uniquely you. Click here to learn more about Hard Bubbles.
